If you had the chance to help a young adult stay in tertiary education, would you take it? For many students at the University of the Sunshine Coast (USC), the financial pressures of tertiary education can result in serious financial hardship, and sadly, they are forced to drop out.
I’m passionate about the success of the Sunshine Coast community, and understand the essential role of tertiary students in building our future. That’s why I’m involved in USC Giving Day (G-Day 2018) where members of our community are invited to make a donation towards a Study Support Bursary. The bursaries provide financial support to students with a demonstrated financial need, right when it’s needed most. These bursaries really make a huge difference.

After a decade of participating on school boards and many years supporting development advocacy groups such as the Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA), I have recently joined the Foundation Board at USC where a major aim is to build long-term relationships with the community.
In addition to my personal support of G-Day, since 2005, Project Urban has provided an annual bursary to a student studying Bachelor of Regional and Urban Planning at USC. At the risk of sounding cliché – these kids really are our future, and a university education has the greatest potential for improving their future opportunities as well as those of their family and community.
