Sunshine Coast Council has committed to undertake public consultation of the mass transit project from 28 April 2021 until 22 June 2021. Written submissions can be made during this timeframe.
The project’s initial focus is to explore opportunities for mass transit between Maroochydore and Birtinya. Land use planning will also be considered as part of this engagement process. Outcomes from the engagement process will be an important input into the preparation of Council’s new planning scheme so early advocacy is crucial.
We know that over 60% of forecasted population growth is required to be accommodated within existing urban areas. Council’s engagement process for the mass transit project provides an opportunity to emphasise the importance of infill density projects, particularly in terms of revitalising older areas along the mass transit corridor route.
