Last year, amendments were made to the Planning Act 2016 to allow the Minister to extend or suspend periods under the Act because of the impact of COVID-19. On 1 September 2021, the Minister extended timeframes for approved development by a further SIX months.
We understand that the additional time provided through this extension notice applies to development approvals in effect on 1 September 2021 or which come into effect between 1 September 2021 and 30 September 2021.
The extension notice does not revive lapsed development approvals, and does not apply to building work approvals to which section 71 of the Building Act 1975 applies.
