Project Urban congratulates Brisbane City Council and their chosen contractor, Marine Structures (based here on the Sunshine Coast), with the final replacement of six public pontoons in the Brisbane River following the flooding weather event of February/March 2022.
Project Urban’s Manager of Marine Structures, Trish Belt, was instrumental in engaging with the State Government to secure the adoption of a Special Circumstances policy to respond to the flooding event to allow lawful structures to be replaced without a new development application being made. Project Urban provided design advice, lodged each request with the State department and liaised with department officers prior to each final consent for works being issued.
Brisbane City Council prides itself on its River Access Network providing multiple access points to the river for a range of vessels (both recreational and commercial) and passive crafts eg kayaks, canoes and stand up paddle boards. The replacement pontoons will certainly be welcomed back by the residents of the Brisbane City Council area and visitors to the River City.
