We extend our congratulations to the Sunshine Coast Council on the successful commencement of Temporary Local Planning Instrument No. 1 of 2025 – Accommodation Hotel Incentive Measures, which officially came into effect on 4 April 2025.
This forward-thinking initiative represents a proactive step in supporting the region’s growing tourism and hospitality sectors. TLPI 01/2025 provides targeted planning incentives to encourage the development of new, high-quality accommodation hotels and to facilitate the upgrade of existing premises to an upscale standard (minimum 4.0-star rating).
The TLPI allows for additional building height and reduced on-site car parking requirements for eligible developments within the Maroochydore and Caloundra centre areas, helping to unlock strategic sites and fast-track investment in key urban hubs.
By temporarily suspending certain aspects of the Sunshine Coast Planning Scheme 2014, this instrument enables Council to respond quickly to market opportunities, while longer-term planning amendments are developed.
This is a strong move towards enhancing the Sunshine Coast’s appeal as a premium tourism destination, and we commend the Council for its vision and agility in delivering this interim planning solution.
