EVERY now and then, we get to work on a project that is exquisitely unique, or on a site that is difficult and challenging or on a project that’s a real game-changer for the area. The Badderam Eco Luxe Resort & Spa was all those things, and we’re proud to announce its approval.

The Sunshine Coast Council approved the 111 room, 5-star resort on Buderim’s southern escarpment at the ordinary general meeting last Thursday, with a vote of nine for and two against.

The $100 million development known as The Badderam Eco Luxe Resort & Spa, will include conference facilities, a day spa, two restaurants and a café, caretakers residence and an on-site managers residence.

It’s been a long journey for our clients Heidi Meyer and her husband Kim Carroll. The original proposal was lodged under the superseded planning scheme (Maroochy Plan 2000) in 2015, and now, three years down the track, the approval is in place.

Project Urban’s managing director, Andrew Stevens said it was an important project, not just for Buderim, but the entire Sunshine Coast.

“The Sunshine Coast will come of age with this resort. Badderam will offer a true 5-star resort experience, an offering which is currently missing from the marketplace. It will support our new international airport, create jobs and inject millions of dollars into our economy, year after year,” Mr Stevens said.

“The application process presented plenty of challenges including an environment with steep terrain and large tracts of remnant vegetation, concern about building heights and visual impacts. However, we worked diligently with the council to address these concerns, whilst ensuring there was adequate recognition of the enormous contribution the resort would make to the economy, the tourism sector and Buderim itself,” he said.

Development conditions will ensure the resort has a 5-star or higher luxury rating and a 6-star Green Star rating from the Green Council of Australia. The resort will target top-end international and business executive market.
